Stephen Joseph Website

Stephen Joseph Gifts began as a brand dedicated to quality products, thoughtful details, and outstanding customer service. As they say, they put the “fun” in functional with exceptional products at even better prices, and by adding fresh new items year after year. With a world wide audience and a large variety of categories to choose from, including gifts, school essentials, accessories, and décor, Stephen Joseph Gifts offers plenty of ways to help make everyday a little brighter.

Working within an outdated CMS (Sitefinity), I was tasked with creating an attractive, simple, ethereal look for the Stephen Joseph Gifts Website.

Overview

Web Development Process

By far the largest of the Stephen Joseph Companies website I built, I started with laying out the sitemap to understand the best user experience, while accommodating ownership requests, and working around the limitations of Sitefinity. Once the sitemap was approved, I began work on a series of extremely detailed designs for the owner/company to choose from. From there it was a matter of inputting products, updating the 5000+ lines of outdated code, improving SEO, mobile functionality, checkout functions, and adding the necessary graphics.

The end result was a quality, clean, efficient website that functioned even with a severely outdated CMS (Sitefinity).

Challenges

Limited Time & Software

Despite conventional wisdom, the core part of website development and design is not necessary for the coding process. Indeed, such technologies as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript give the web we know its shape and define the way we interact with the information. But what usually stays behind the scenes and, at the same time, remains the crucial part of the website development life cycle are the stages of preliminary information gathering, detailed planning, and post-launch maintenance.

Planning and staging an efficient user experience that caters to both B2B and B2C sales was key. One major function that was missing was mobile functionality. With no initial code within Sitifinity that would adjust the website based on screen size, I had to find creative ways to integrate techniques to get around the CMS limitations. This all had to be done within a couple months.

Website Functionality

Friendly Design

If a potential customer is looking for a particular service or product, they are more likely to search it on their phone. And, if the website isn’t optimized properly for the web or is difficult to use, the customer will end up finding that product or service somewhere else.

Stephen Joseph Gifts sold to both B2C and B2B so I was tasked with developing a clean and simple solution for searching, adding, and buying small or large quantity carts and have the stock reflected imagencytely within the warehouse system (Accellos) and then displayed on the website.
